The impact of the recent government shutdown has extended far beyond what most Americans anticipated. Federal employees may be back to work, but Americans continue to face repercussions. Those who rely on tax refunds, in particular, are struggling to get by as the IRS slowly processes them. As you can imagine, many are desperate to know when their refund will arrive.
The solution? A government app. The “Where’s My Refund” app makes it easier for ordinary taxpayers to determine where they stand with the IRS — and whether (and when) they might receive their refund. Read on to learn more about this valuable tool:
How Does the App Work?
If you want to check your refund status on your mobile device, you’ll need to download the IRS2Go app. Available in English or Spanish, this app allows you to learn more about your refund, sign up for tax tips, or even make payments. You can easily download the app on Google Play, the App Store, or via Amazon. You can check the status of your refund as little as 24 hours after you have filed your tax return or four weeks after you’ve filed by mail.
To check your refund, you’ll need to enter your Social Security Number, your filing status, and the refund amount listed in your tax return. Refund information is updated daily; if you find that your refund is not available when you first check, feel free to visit the app again the following day.
Checking Your Refund Online
If you don’t feel like downloading the IRS2Go app, don’t worry; the IRS also offers an online service for checking your refund. As with the mobile device app, you’ll need to enter your Social Security Number and other information.
The new IRS app can prove helpful as you await your refund, but dedicated tax services are even more valuable. Contact the Highland Tax Group at 720-398-6088 to learn how we can assist you with your tax concerns.
